 Our Beliefs

Our Core Beliefs

Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior of the world - Nothing and no one else is worthy of our praise, devotion and trust.  Only in Christ will the world be saved from itself.

Christ comes to us in God's Word, water, wine & bread - Only in Christ, as he comes in Word and Sacraments, is the unambiguous revelation of God given to us. We cannot find God, nor can we discover God in the world in a way that shows us who God really is.

We are accepted, welcomed and saved by grace - Christ died so that all the lost, not just some, might be found and brought into a life filled with the abundance of God.

We know Christ by knowing the people of Christ - As Christ shows us who God really is, Christ is known through those who follow him, love him, and in their imperfect struggles to live, reach out to others as he did.

Christ changes us and challenges us - Lives are changed in the encounter with Christ. The journey of faith calls for constant growth.

Every member is a minister - All who call on the name of Christ are gifted so that they can participate in his on-going ministry of transformation to the whole world.  We are priests, everyone. We have received everything from God as stewards, and so are called to use what we have in service and transformation of the world.

  • This congregation confesses the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • This congregation confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe.
  • Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through whom everything was made and through whose life, death, and resurrection God fashions a new creation.
  • The proclamation of God's message to us as both Law and Gospel is the Word of God, revealing judgment and mercy through word and deed, beginning with the Word in creation, continuing in the history of Israel, and centering in all its fullness in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
  • The canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the written Word of God.  Inspired by God's Spirit speaking through their authors, they record and announce God's revelation centering in Jesus Christ.  Through them God's Spirit speaks to us to create and sustain Christian faith and fellowship for service in the world.
  • This congregation accepts the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of its proclamation, faith, and life.
  • This congregation confesses the Gospel, recorded in the Holy Scriptures and confessed in the ecumenical creeds and Lutheran confessional writings, as the power of God to create and sustain the Church for God's mission in the world.
  • Christ Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) - www.elca.org. We share full communion with the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church USA, The United Church of Christ, The Reformed Church in America and the Moravian Church.
