Congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) are organized into 65 geographic synods across the United States.  Synod means "walking together."  Christ Lutheran Church along with 164 other congregations, is part of the Northern Illinois Synod of the ELCA.  Each Synod is led by a Bishop who provides spiritual and administrative leadership for each of the synod's congregations and their pastors and rostered lay leaders. Our congregation supports the work of the synod by committing approximately 16% of its general offerings to the work of the synod.  The synod then commits 55% of what it receives from congregations to the prgrams and ministries of the churchwide organization of the ELCA.
