Acolyte/Crucifer
The acolyte is a youth in 4th-8th grade who lights the altar candles and, at certain times during the year, the Paschal (baptismal) candle during the prelude to the worship service.  S/he then carries the processional cross and leads the Pastor and the Assisting Minister to the altar at the beginning of the worship service.  At the conclusion of the worship, s/he carries the cross to the narthex, again leading the Pastor and the Assisting Minister.  After the worship service ends, s/he extinguishes the candles. (8 am service & midweek services only)

Altar Preparations
At the end of each week, the person performing this ministry changes the paraments and linens on the altar and the banners as needed.  S/he also checks the sanctuary for anything that needs to be straightened and makes sure the “Welcome Books” are ready for use by the worshippers.  This is a wonderful ministry for those who have young children, as there are many jobs that they can do, thus giving them a sense of having their own ministry.

Assisting Minister
This ministry is available to any person who has affirmed his/her Baptism.  The Assisting Minister enters and leaves the worship service with the Pastor, leads the congregation in several prayers, assists with setting the Table and distributing Holy Communion.

Bread Delivery
Deliver a loaf of bread to the home of each of our first time guests at the worship services of that day.  If the person is home, share a word of thanks for worshipping with us.

Coffee Host
Prior to the beginning of each worship service, the Coffee Hosts prepare carafes of coffee and  juice and places donuts on trays. Granola bars are placed in baskets, too. During the fellowship time after worship, they ensure that these refreshments continue to be available.  When the fellowship time is over, they clean up in preparation for the next fellowship time or for the coming week.

Communion Assistant
Four Assistants come to the altar and receive Holy Communion, then assist the Pastor and the Assisting Minister by distributing the wine to the rest of the congregation.  When the congregation has all communed, the Assistants return to their places.

Communion Bread Baker
The baker prepares 6-8 loaves of bread, using a recipe provided by the church, to be used in each celebration of Holy Communion.  Youth in grades 3 and above are encouraged to be involved in this ministry in partnership with their parents.

Communion Preparation
Prior to each worship service, these persons place the communion vessels and linens on the credence table behind the altar.  They then place the bread and the wine on the credence table in the narthex.  Following the service, they remove all vessels and linens to the sacristy and then reverently dispose of the remaining bread and wine.  Children and youth may participate in this ministry as a part of a team with a parent or other adult.

Donut Pick-up
Each Sunday, this person or couple goes to the bakery we contract with to pick up our standing order of donuts and bagels, then brings them to the church by 7:30 am.

Greeters
Greeters welcome all who enter the church for worship as a means of expressing the hospitality of the congregation, and minister from both the outer doors and the wooden doors by the fellowship area.  Greeters seek to answer any questions our visitors may have and then refer them to the Worship Hosts to continue the extension of hospitality.  Please encourage members and guests alike to wear their nametags.  Greeters “greet” folks not only as they enter the building, but also as they leave church after the worship service.  A great ministry for a family to do together!

Lector
During our worship services, Lectors come to the ambo (reading desk) near the altar and read the assigned scripture passages from the Lectionary (large book of lessons).

Linen & Vestment Preparation
Following the worship service, soiled communion linens and albs (robes) are collected in a laundry basket in the sacristy.  Those who perform this ministry take these items home, wash & iron them and return them to the church by the following Friday.

Meeters/Minglers
Look for those who are not in conversation with others and engage them for several minutes.  Introduce them to someone else, giving them a point of conversation.  Seek out guests and unfamiliar faces.  Ensure that they have completed a Welcome Card so that they can receive our newsletter.  Will be available in the fellowship area during the entire worship service to ensure that each person who enters the building is greeted, regardless of the time.

Multi-Media Design and Liturgical Arts
This person works with the creative design of computer graphics for use at the Connections service.  Needed each week is the opening segment to welcome newcomers and introduce the theme of the day, as well as creation of the “Connecting the Word” to creatively illustrate the theme of the day.

Multi-Media Technician
The technician ensures that all worship leaders have microphones prior to the worship service, monitors the sound levels during the service, and implements the technology needs for the service.  S/he also records the services and makes copies available as needed.  This ministry is for persons in 10th grade through adult.

Nursery Attendant
These persons provide childcare during the worship services for infants, toddlers and children up to the age of 5 years.  Two adults who enjoy spending time with little ones and one youth (H.S. age and above or 6th-8th graders who have completed a babysitting course) are needed to provide this ministry during all worship services.  All parents of children who use this service are asked to share in this ministry.

Parking
As part of greeting at the outside door, be ready to ask those driving up if they would like help with their car.  If so, park their car, lock the car door, and return the keys promptly to the owner who is waiting inside the building.  Tell them where you parked their car.  Following worship, you may then retrieve the car for the individual when they are ready to depart. Prefer ages 30 and above.

Sacristan
The sacristan ensures that all of the worship participants are present and ready to serve before each worship service.  If someone is missing, s/he secures a replacement for that responsibility. Following the worship service, the Sacristan removes the offering and places it in the church safe.

Worship Host
These persons (often a family, a couple, or several singles) greet worshippers in the narthex.  At that time, they remind persons to get their nametags, provide them with a bulletin and welcome card, and/or a children’s bulletin and crayons.  If necessary, they help them find a place to sit in the sanctuary.  In the worship service, these persons receive the offering and then take the offering of money, bread and wine to the altar during the offertory.  Worship Hosts usher persons forward to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion.  At the end of the worship service, they collect bulletins for recycling, remove the welcome cards from the binders, and straighten the worship area for the next service.
