Tax Codes, Earned Income Tax Credits – ah --  I can see eyes glazing over, Anyway, what do they have to do with the hungry?

Bread for the World, an ecumenical Christian advocacy organization is asking Congress to take broader efforts to reduce poverty.  Direct aid, like that of food pantries, is vital. Aid to people in foreign countries is important.  But, of equal importance to the other two is giving a voice to the poor and marginalized, those who currently are voiceless.

Congress is considering making permanent Earned Income Tax Credits for working poor families and the Child Tax Credit.  These programs reward hard-working, low-income households ( especially those working for minimum wage) for their efforts to bring their families up from poverty.  The measures are set to expire at the end of this fiscal year.
