 Feeding the Hungry 

The needs of the hungry are as far away as Africa and Asia, as close as our next door neighbor.  As followers of the one who said "I am the Bread of Life" and who fed 5,000 with a few loaves and fish, we are committed to a ministry of providing from our abundance to those who have little.  We have been blessed to be a blessing.

A Word from our Minister for Hunger Advocacy 

Exciting Garden News!

The Hunger Advocates of Christ Lutheran are pleased to announce that CLC has been blessed by a $1750 grant for Christ's Community Garden.  the granting agency is Neighborhood Network of Rockford Human Services.The agreement is that each family will grow a row to feed the hungry or otherwise give at least 10% of their yield to local pantries.


We hope to use our funds to put in place a watering infrastructure (rain barrels and perhaps eave troughs) and build some raised beds as well.  If you are interested in helping with these projects please contact the church office.

 

Along with the grant requirements to track our expenses for the project, we are asked to chronicle our gardening adventures in a monthly journals.  The Hunger Advocates will be meeting with those families and individuals who indicated an interest in having a garden plot to go over the requirements for the grant..So far, four families and individuals have requested a plot. 

 

If you would like to be a part of this exciting venture, please contact Sue Ellen Zagrabelny at clcelca@makingchristknown.org or call the church office (815-885-2522) as soon as possible.  The plots that are not spoken for will be planted with potatoes and/or other root vegetables.  These are in high demand at the pantry and require minimal weeding and other maintenance.
