Faith is a lifelong journey that begins in the waters of Baptism. When young children are baptized, parents assume the responsibility for nurturing the faith in their children until the child is able to walk the journey alone. As children are baptized, parents promise to:
- bring the children to the worship services of the congregation
- to place in their hands (and their ears) the Holy Scriptures
- to teach them the Lord's Prayer, Creeds, and Ten Commandments
- to provide for their instruction in the Christian faith.
Through the stepping stones, the congregation provides "touchpoints" during the development and growth of the child for parents, child and congregation to come together to celebrate faith and insure that these important promises are being kept.
