Hurricanes, earthquakes, and other disasters are a devastating fact of life. They can leave thousands grieving the loss of loved ones, even more struggling to recover from injuries. In the aftermath of such disasters, survivors scramble to not only rebuild their lives, but simply to find the necessities of daily life like food and water. In these times, the ELCA, as a church and in partnership with other denominations and agencies arrives to meet the human needs, to serve as Christ served, and to help all of us lend a hand. Wherever there is devastation and human need, we are there, and you can help.

Hurricane Relief
Learn about the disaster relief efforts going on in the Gulf in the wake of Hurrican Katrina and how you can help!
Disaster Relief Supplies Needed
The changing needs of the disaster relief efforts in the Gulf mean that we are adapting the list of needed supplies as we receive information from our sister congregation, Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. This congregation is serving three meals a day to 200-300 people and sheltering close to 100 each night. They are also sending work crews out each day. They desperately need:
- Canned vegtables
- Canned Meat
- Canned Soup
- Canned juices and beverages (not soda)
- Boxed milk (NOT powdered) - vacuum packed
- Pasta
- Mops
- Brooms
- Floor cleaners
- Cots
- Heavy rubber gloves
- Leather work gloves
- N95 Respirator masks
- Crow bars
- 30 Gallon Plastic garbage bags
- Scoop shovels
- Flat Shovels
- Framing Hammers
- Tarps
- Utility Knives
- 6 ft Step ladders

Christus Victor Lutheran Church - Our Partner Congregation
We have established a partnership with Christus Victor Lutheran Chruch in Ocean Springs, Mississippi as they work to rebuild lives in the area heavily impacted by Hurricane Katrina. This congregation is currently providing shelter for up to 100 people each night and serving 200-300 meanls three times a day. They have a Medical Clinic working out of the building run by Lutheran World Relief. Work crews are dispatched by the congregation daily to de-construct damaged homes and ready them for repair. We are helping through our prayers, through collecting things they need and providing volunteers as much as possible. Click on this link to find out more about our sister congregation.
